Uniform Policy

The Kilmer K-8 has a uniform policy for all students.  The policy aligns with our school vision of maintaining an inclusive community, in which all students are welcomed and accepted. The policy is designed to promote student focus and achievement while also advancing school pride.
Elementary School (K-5) Uniform:
  • Beige khaki bottoms (including appropriate length pants, skirts, jumpers, and shorts)
  • Navy blue tops (plain/solid t-shirts, long-sleeve shirts, polos, sweaters, sweatshirts, blouses or button-downs) or school t-shirts and sweatshirts with school logos
  • Grey sweatpants or sport shorts can be worn on PE days or for students with tactile sensitivity
Middle School (6-8) Uniform:
  • Black bottoms (including appropriate length pants, sweatpants, skirts, jumpers, shorts and sport shorts)
  • Grey tops (plain/solid t-shirts, long-sleeve shirts, polos, sweaters, sweatshirts, blouses or button-downs) and school t-shirts and sweatshirts with school logos
Plain shirts and pants may be purchased wherever you shop.  Old Navy, Target, Walmart, Land’s End, and Children’s Place all offer low cost school uniform options in the grey, navy blue and beige khaki colors.  School t-shirts will be offered through the school each summer and at other times during the year. Families who need financial support to purchase uniform clothing can contact the school.

All students are expected to follow the uniform policy. Administrators are responsible for enforcing the policy and determining whether a student is in violation. Staff will call the families of students not wearing their school  uniform to understand and support any uniform issues and will provide uniform attire for students to change into.

Students may dress casually on dress down days announced by the administration. Students do not have to wear their uniforms on these days, but appropriate attire is required every day.
  • Hats and hoods may not be worn in school; religious head coverings are always permitted.
  • Students must wear their pants at their waists, ensuring that all undergarments are covered.
  • Students’ midriffs, bottoms, and chests must be covered.
  • Footwear must be appropriate and safe for participation in school activities; no flip flops.

No student shall be subject to internal detention, suspension or expulsion from school and/or be penalized academically as a result of not complying with the uniform policy.  Students can however earn points or incentives for complying with the uniform. No student shall be considered in violation of the uniform policy if the parent/guardian secures an exemption for the student from the principal for financial hardship, religious beliefs, or other personal reasons described by the parent.
